our philosophy
We believe that the best way to really experience an area is to pass through it on foot. Unlike the view obtained through the windows of a bus, a traveller on foot moves at a leisurely pace. There is time to smell the flowers, watch a native bird as it darts amongst the colourful wildflowers, stop and chat with local characters and marvel at nature's majestic landscapes. We have carefully chosen locations for our journeys on foot to feature the best national parks and reserves in the country.
Our walking routes are not simply the shortest distance between two points. They take you to secluded, unspoiled places not bustling with tourists; always beautiful, sometimes remote, usually peaceful, often wild. Walking returns you to nature. There's nothing quite like a day's walking in the clean, fresh air to relax the body and mind and to get fine conversations going. We believe it is the best, and often the only way to experience some of these wonderful environments.
At Auswalk we are committed to providing quality holidays that are excellent value for money, whether the price is high or low. Each trip has been thoroughly researched to ensure that high standards are met and maintained. Our program of regular review and our response to client feedback ensures that you will have a unique, enjoyable and highly memorable walking holiday.
Leave the logistics of your holiday to us. We'll organize all the accommodation, meals, transport etc. in advance, saving you time and ensuring that you'll experience the best an area has to offer. We know the best places to stay and which ones to avoid. We know the best walking routes and how to help you discover more of an area than you could on your own. Most importantly, we triple-check your travel arrangements so you can relax in the knowledge that your holiday will be hassle-free.

A delightful Blue Mountains B&B
accommodation & dining
On Auswalk holidays the accommodation is all pre-booked for you. Our properties are chosen for their accessibility to the walking route and for the care the hosts take of our clients. Each property has been personally selected and has something special to recommend it. We try to find accommodation that is comfortable and run by interesting people. A warm welcome and quality, professional service are more important to us than star ratings.
Some of our properties are in towns, some in villages and some in the bush. With such a wide range of walking holidays and locations, our accommodation and facilities will vary, adding interest to your trip. You may stay in an historic guesthouse with authentic heritage decor or a modern tropical resort boasting luxurious facilities. It may be a cosy country cottage in a secluded setting or a friendly home-stay where you become part of the family. It could be a modern private hotel/motel or an alpine ski lodge nestled high in the mountains. Some of our properties have been lovingly restored whilst others are modern and functional. Some have magnificent landscaped gardens or panoramic views, others have the Australian bush and kangaroos on the doorstep. We arrange twin/double rooms with ensuites (unless otherwise stated). All prices are per person based on two people sharing a room. Single rooms are available on most trips upon payment of an extra single supplement fee.
Quality dining is an important aspect of all Auswalk walking holidays. Our meals range from gourmet a la carte dining through to home cooked country fare shared with your hosts. Meals are always plentiful, nutritious and wholesome, with local flavours and specialities. A typical day starts with a hearty breakfast served by your hosts. Sometimes you'll prepare your own breakfast with the ingredients provided. Picnic lunches are packed in an insulated carrier bag, ensuring they remain fresh and cool. In the evening you will sit down to a sumptuous two or three course dinner. Some properties are fully licensed and some are BYO (i.e. bring your own alcohol). Vegetarians are well catered for.
We include most meals in your package so you don't have to go out and look for somewhere to dine after a day on the track. Where meals are not included there will always be plenty of good restaurants and other eateries nearby.

INN-to-INN
Group Guided Walking Holidays
inn-to-inn walking holidays
INN-to-INN walking holidays are similar to European "hotel treks" or "pub to pub" trips. You walk from place to place along a linear or circular route staying in comfortable accommodation along the way. You only need to carry a light day pack each day as the rest of your luggage will be moved for you by vehicle whilst you are out walking. On the last day of the trip we return you to the starting point to collect your vehicle or make public transport connections.
All INN-to-INN walking holidays can be done Self-Guided, using our very detailed and easy-to-follow walking notes. Some also have guided departures, on demand for a minimum of 2 people booking together. Alternatively you can join one of our group guided trips.
INN-to-INN walking holidays are available in the following places:
Blue Mountains (near Sydney)
Grampians (near Melbourne)
Great Alpine Walk (4 hours from Melbourne)
Great North Walk (near Sydney)
