We started each day with a gourmet breakfast. There was the usual continental spread followed by a a la carte choice of hot items. My favourite was the smoke salmon and chives omelette. Others enjoyed the plumped up Bircher muesli. There were different choices each day.
On some days we enjoyed a fabulous lunch in the restaurant. On other days we were out walking for the whole day so took a packed picnic lunch. At stunning North Bay we enjoyed a beach BBQ which was brought over to us by boat. Washed down with a glass of wine we dined on fresh Hapuka Cod. As always on Auswalk trips, there were a range of yummy nibbles to take out on the track.
Dinners are the best. They usually started with an interesting soup. My favourite was the Jerusalem artichoke with truffle oil. There was always fish on the menu and it’s caught locally so is extremely fresh. Local king fish is the specialty and I’m sure those chefs know 101 ways of serving it up! On one night they produced gourmet sushi platters. And check out those desserts.
The only complaint I heard was “I think I’ve put on weight”! Oh well, we provided the food – you put it to your lips!
