rainforests & watefall way story

Dorrigo National Park Waterfall

Contributed by Tasman Wilson from Sydney

This is a great trek. It starts with the rugged grandeur of the granite New England Highlands. The views from the tors are breathtaking. The hard granite gives rise to some mighty waterfalls that we visited. Then into the soft beauty of the rainforests around Dorrigo. For another change of environment we proceeded to Coffs Harbour and did a beach walk from Broken Head to Byron Bay.

We then went up the Lamington Plateau. This is a volcanic area which gives rise to rich rainforests over all the plateau. We did a walk along the Box Forest Circuit Track. This took us down into a deep valley with many waterfalls and rich with dense tropical forests of ferns and strangler figs. The climb out followed the river with many river crossings to negotiate.  The next day we did the 24 Km traverse from O’Reilly’s to Binna Burra.

I would recommend this walk to anybody who likes to be out exploring nature.
