types of guided walking holidays

Auswalk offers different types of guided walks.

We have a range of Guided Group Walks, where we travel by mini bus, exploring an area and stopping for stunning walks along the way. We visit the “must see” places and we also get far off-the-beaten track to places that few people have heard of and even fewer have visited. Let us share these special gems with you - you’ll enjoy a unique, varied, memorable and fun walking holiday.

Auswalk also offers guided INN-to-INN walks. They are identical to the Self-Guided INN-to-INN holidays, with the addition of a guide. They operate on demand for a minimum of 2 people booking together. You may be the only people in the group or it is possible that others may book on the same date.

Plus we have a special guided walking holiday in the Sydney area. The accommodation is based in Sydney and we walk in different National Parks and coastal reserves in the broader Sydney region. This trip operates on demand for a minimum of 2 people booking together.

frequently asked questions

What type of people join these tours?
People who share a common interest in travelling off the standard tourist route and exploring new areas on foot. They include Australians and people from other countries. Some are experienced walkers, some first-timers. Some come alone, some with a partner, some with a group of friends. They can be of any age but all are active, educated people who enjoy meeting other like-minded walkers and walking with knowledgeable guides. And all enjoy the convivial atmosphere of an interesting group. Come with a friend or come alone - you'll soon make friends.

How many people are there in the group?
On
Group Guided trips: Group sizes are always small - usually 8-15 people. Trips operate subject to minimum numbers - check our booking conditions for details.
On INN-to-INN guided trips: These trips operate on demand. We guarantee to operate these trips for a minimum of 2 people booking together. There is a good chance that you will be the only participants, however there may be other people on the trip as well. The same applies to the Sydney's Bushtracks, Bays & Beaches trip.

What are Auswalk guides like?
Auswalk guides are mature, committed professionals – they are enthusiastic people who genuinely love what they are doing and are fun people to spend a week with! They are all highly knowledgeable, experienced leaders who are there to ensure each person’s expectations are met and that everyone has an enjoyable, memorable walking holiday. They will organise all the logistics of the holiday, provide information about the areas you are visiting and make sure everyone has an enjoyable and memorable walking holiday. On our group guided walks we have two guides so we can offer easier and harder walk options and also have the ability to do one-way walks (except for Australian Alps which has one guide).

Am I fit enough?
Look at the Walk Gradings and choose a trip that suits your ability and fitness level. Group trips operate with two guides so we can offer easier and harder options along the way.

Is there time for sightseeing as well?
Yes, we include visits to major attractions, cultural experiences and some
time to explore the area on your own or to simply put your feet up and relax.

What is the accommodation and food like?
We choose clean, comfortable accommodations in quiet locations and look for quality beds (usually queen sized), ensuite bathrooms (except at lighthouses), good food and welcoming hosts. Typical accommodation varies from area to area but could include boutique inns, guesthouses, hotels, motels, resorts and wilderness retreats. Most meals are included - occasionally a meal is not included because there are excellent restaurants nearby for you to try.

If I am travelling alone, what are my rooming options?
You may choose to share a twin room with someone of the same sex (if such a person is available). If we do not have anyone for you to share with, or if you would prefer to have a single room, you will need to pay the additional single supplement. Share allocations are done based on who books first so if you are keep to twin share then book early. Please read the booking conditions carefully.

Do you have triple share rooms?
No - all rooms are double (one bed), twin (two beds) or single (one bed)

receive about one month prior to your holiday

How do I get to the start of the holiday?
All start and finish points of our walking holidays can be reached by daily public transport. On INN-to-INN trips, if you arrive by private car you can leave it at the first accommodation. For Group Guided Tours please contact us for information on car parking.

Should I choose a guided or Self-Guided holiday?
Guided trips are ideal for meeting new people and enjoying the camaraderie of a group. People traveling alone should join a guided trip as there is a minimum of two people required to do a Self-Guided walk. Self-Guided trips are great for independent people who prefer to choose their own walking companions and set their own pace.

Can you arrange a special trip for my family or group of friends?
Yes - we can arrange something to suit your group. We can also offer private guiding for groups as small as one person. Contact us for a quote.

Do you ever offer new trips?
Yes - they are advertised in our regular newsletters and also on our website.
