ECOTRAVEL

Ecotourism

At Auswalk we travel responsibly, sustainability informs all our decisions and training and education of our guides, staff and our partners on the ground. We love what we do and are mindful of having only a positive impact on the amazing destinations we walk.  For nearly 30 years our philosophy has been to do better than the adage of “leaving no trace”, by removing rubbish as we walk, among other things.

Advanced ECO Certification

Auswalk has the highest level of ECO certification possible for an adventure walking holiday tour operator. Ecotourism Australia, a not for profit organisation, has awarded Auswalk Advanced ECO Certification. This is granted to the most innovative tourism operators who have proven over time that they are committed to best practice in respect to sustaining and caring for the environment, while also supporting local communities.

Carbon Emission Offsetting

Auswalk have partnered with Greenfleet to offset our carbon emissions through their native reforestation programs. They are a leading not-for-profit environmental organisation committed to protecting our climate by restoring our forests. Greenfleet plant native biodiverse forests that capture carbon emissions and lessen the effect of climate change. Since 1997, Greenfleet has planted over 9.2 million trees across 500 forests. As they grow, the forests not only absorb carbon emissions, but also improve water and soil quality, and restore habitat for native wildlife, including many endangered species.

Odonata & Walk for Biodiversity

Auswalk helps to protect wildlife and actively supports sustainability projects. We work with Odonata, a not-for-profit organisation that raises funding and supports various programs and organisations dedicated to helping protect biodiversity. Based in Australia but working with partners all over the world, they are at the forefront of thinking when it comes to protecting biodiversity.

Our most significant contribution to Odonata’s work is our Walk for Biodiversity program. Our walkers can choose to donate 10 cents for every kilometre walked on any of our trips, and Auswalk will match the donation. All proceeds are donated to Odonata to support their threatened species breeding programs at Mt Rothwell Biodiversity Interpretation Centre. You can read more about Walk for Biodiversity here.

Connecting People with Nature

Perhaps most importantly, we know that having an immersive experience in nature on one of our amazing walks helps people connect with the environment and feel better about themselves.

We know that Auswalkers are passionate about protecting what we enjoy, ensuring that future generations can share the joy.
