The Snowy Mountains landscape is unlike any other in Australia. The dramatic summits of Caruthers Peak and Mnt Kosciuszko both with breathtaking views over spectacular ravines are some of the highlights. As is walking the challenging trails along escarpments and over the Alpine plain. Enjoy the adventure and the tranquillity of this sparsely populated region. The capacity for contrasts will never cease to surprise and inspire; magical snow gum forests and tall stands of mountain ash dot the landscape. Snow drifts into deep summer and the stunning Blue Lake provide further contrast and also add to the highlight reel. The epic track winds its way through the mountains from Guthega to Charlottes Pass to Perisher and onto Thredbo via Mnt Kosciuszko the tallest mountain in Australia.

climate/weather

The climate in the Snowy Mountains clearly varies even throughout the day, it can vary even in the height of summer but it is still safe to walk. But bring warm clothes and shorts and T-shirts. In winter get out your snow shoes if you want to get out and walk. We don’t offer trips at this time.

The Snowy Mountains self-guided walking holidays are available from December to early April. Please see our What To Bring section in FAQ’s for more information.

For more information please see the Bureau of Meteorology’s information concerning average temperatures and rainfall levels throughout the year.
