Where You'll Stay

Nights are spent in a carefully selected range of resorts and apartments across the region, each chosen for their quality and position along the track. All rooms have their own ensuite, and accommodations are ideally located to minimise time in a vehicle. On most days you will walk directly in and out of your accommodation, keeping the experience as immersive as possible.

What You'll Eat

Professional chefs prepare two-course à la carte dinners and cooked breakfasts throughout the walk, with a focus on Margaret River's outstanding regional produce and wine. A substantial packed lunch is provided each day and enjoyed at a memorable spot on the track. The Margaret River region is one of Australia's great wine destinations, and a day visiting local cellar doors is highly recommended.

Note: Drinks and alcohol are not included with meals, with the exception of tea, coffee and juice served with breakfast.

More About This Trip

The walk starts in Augusta and finishes at Bunker Bay near Dunsborough. Fly into Perth or directly into Busselton from Melbourne or Sydney on selected days. We recommend checking flight availability before selecting your start date, and not booking flights until your walking holiday is confirmed.

From Perth, a daily train and coach service via TransWA connects to Margaret River, with a private transfer (at your own cost) for the remaining distance to Augusta. On Saturdays, South West Coach Lines operates to Margaret River instead, with a private transfer (at your own cost) arranged for the rest of the journey. At the end of the walk, a short taxi transfer to Dunsborough connects you to the coach back to Perth — this transfer is included in your package.

If self-driving, we recommend leaving your car at the final accommodation and making your own way to Augusta at the start. Note that there are no car rental depots in Augusta, Margaret River, Dunsborough or Busselton — the closest is Avis in Busselton. Private transfers are also available and can be economical for groups. Speak to your destination consultant for details.

The Cape to Cape Track is available from 1 March to 14 December. Spring and autumn are the standout seasons, with mild temperatures. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 35 degrees, making it tough going on exposed coastal sections. Winter walking is perfectly possible, and you'll have the track largely to yourself, though come prepared for cool temperatures and rain.

The terrain is varied — mostly well-walked paths and bush tracks, with some sandy sections and coastal escarpments. Longer days provide a genuine challenge for fit walkers, and with a rest day built into this itinerary, you have the perfect opportunity to explore the region at your own pace.

Note: On rare occasions, transfers may be shared with other walkers.

You must hold adequate travel insurance for your trip, including cover for personal liability and accidental injury and illness. For all trips involving international travel, your policy must also include emergency medical treatment, evacuation and repatriation cover. We strongly recommend your policy also covers trip cancellation and curtailment, and loss of or damage to luggage.

A cancellation fee usually applies if you cancel after your booking is confirmed. Travel insurance with cancellation cover will generally cover this fee, so it's worth arranging your policy at the time of booking.

Full insurance requirements are set out in our booking terms and conditions.

A detailed information pack and itinerary will be sent to you around six weeks before departure, covering everything you need to know for a seamless experience. In the meantime, our team is always on hand to answer any questions.

The Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse at the southern end of the track marks the meeting of the Southern and Indian Oceans; the heritage-listed precinct includes guided tours and a small museum covering the history of this 1896 lighthouse. Margaret River HEART (Nala Bardip Mia) in the Margaret River township is the region's main arts centre, presenting exhibitions by local and visiting artists throughout the year. Yallingup Aboriginal Art in Yallingup, on the northern stretch of the track, is a family-owned gallery dedicated to authentic First Nations works from Wardandi artists.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Cape to Cape walk is a 135 km trail located between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin in the far south west corner of Western Australia. It is approximately 260 kms from Perth and will take around 3 hours by vehicle. Did you know that this region is recognised worldwide as Australia's biodiversity hotspot?

Coverage is patchy. Telstra has the best reception where it exists, and it's stronger towards the northern end. Don't rely on it as your sole means of communication. All accommodations have free WiFi.

Your main luggage (up to 20kg) is transported between accommodations for you. On the track each day, you'll only carry a lightweight daypack of at least 25–30 litres.

Most requirements can be catered for — just flag them at booking. If your diet is particularly restricted, it helps to provide a list of what you can eat rather than just what you can't.
