Overview
Trade the summit queue at Toubkal for a quieter route through the High Atlas, one built around Berber villages, walnut groves and home-hosted meals rather than a single hard climb. The trip begins in Marrakech, taking in the tilework of the Ben Youssef Madrasa and the souks of the medina with a local guide, before heading up into the mountains around Imlil. Cross the Tizi n'Addi and Tizi Ouidid passes, drop into the red-soiled Azzaden Valley, and stand on the 2,720 metre summit of Tanamrout for a sweep of North Africa's highest peaks. Nights alternate between traditional riads, a private mountain refuge at Azib n'Tamsoult, and the garden setting of your hotel in the Ouirgane Valley, where a swimming pool waits at the end of the trekking days. This is the Atlas for travellers who want the culture and the views without the altitude fight.
