From there, our path leads us along rocky trails and secluded beaches, providing ample opportunities for refreshing swims amidst breathtaking panoramic vistas. The trail meanders, revealing its beauty with each twist and turn, eventually guiding us down to an asphalt road and, subsequently, to Cirali, a tranquil village nestled between the ancient wonders of Olympos and Chimaera, along the stunning turquoise coastline.

The trail guides us along a serene stream before leading us up a gentle hill, ultimately guiding us to the enigmatic Flames of Chimaira, known as Yanartas in Turkish. This unique spot features dozens of natural vents emitting methane, thought to be of metamorphic origin. In ancient times, sailors used these flames for navigation. Olympos, a city dating back to the Hellenistic period, is believed to have derived its name from the nearby Mount Olympos. Following our visit to Olympos, we journey via Musa Dag, also known as Mount Moses, ascending through pine-covered ridges to reach its summit. From this vantage point, we’ll marvel at the stunning Adrasan valley below. Our descent leads us through pine woods until we reach sea level, where Adrasan awaits. This charming settlement boasts a 2-kilometer-long sandy beach, perfect for a refreshing swim.

The route continues along the hillside, providing breathtaking vistas of hidden coves and distant desert islands. This picturesque walk takes us along the range of hills that form the backbone of Gelidonya, with the path weaving among limestone crags, occasionally sheltered by pine trees and sometimes tracing the cliff’s edge. Eventually, we descend a pass with an altitude of around 470 meters, concluding our hike in Adrasan, where we’ll spend the night at a comfortable hotel.

ACCOMMODATION & DINING

OVERVIEW

All the accommodations on this walk are good quality small family-run pensions, guesthouses or hotels. They are typical of the region and well off the tourist routes.

Some of the lodgings have swimming pools, and all have in-house dining/restaurants. What’s most important is that you will receive a warm welcome and get to enjoy the Turkish hospitality that out-of-the-city regions are famous for.  The accommodation locations are beautiful and are also in more remote areas and less frequented.

A set menu is provided when dinner is offered in-house at your accommodation.

FITNESS GUIDE

It’s well worth investing some time and effort preparing for your walking holiday. The graph shows the average daily distance, elevation and terrain difficulty for your hike. The dotted line indicates the average across all our walks, which will give you a feel for how challenging your walk is compared to all – and the recommended type, and amount, of preparation needed.  Of course, you can adapt this according to your existing fitness levels and lifestyle.

The graph and the information below can be used in conjunction with the fitness guide to help you prepare for your walking adventure. Across all walks, average daily distance is 16.8km, average daily elevation is 448m, average terrain difficulty is 5/10.

ngraph

DISTANCE - BELOW AVERAGE

Distance is not a major consideration in your training program. However, you should still incorporate some long walks as it will increase your cardiovascular fitness.

ELEVATION - BELOW AVERAGE

Elevation is not a major consideration in your overall training program. However, you should still incorporate some form of resistance training to increase your endurance.

FLAT TERRAIN

Whilst training for walking on flat and hard terrain, you should focus on building endurance and ensuring you can maintain a comfortable pace.

Start with regular walks on sidewalks, roads, or paved paths to get used to the surface. Maintain a proper posture and engage your core muscles to support your back, keeping a steady gait. Ensure that you have comfortable, supportive footwear with adequate cushioning. If endurance is important, consider incorporating low-impact cross-training activities like swimming or cycling into your routine.

GENERAL INFO

Availability

This trip is available Feb to May and September to October. Generally, it is way too hot to walk in Turkey in summer.

HOW TO GET THERE AND AWAY

You need to fly to Antalya Airport in Turkey, where you will picked up and taken to your first accommodation. Antalya can be reached from 129 different places in Europe, the Middle East and further east, including Russia.  Flightscanner is a useful resource. It is easier to fly from Istanbul to Antalya than other forms of travel.

The Walking

This walk is not challenging and leaves you ample time to explore the gorgeous small villages and ancient ruins. It also leaves time to relax and enjoy remote beaches away from the crowds. So don’t forget your swimming togs.

The tracks and trails on this tour will have prolonged ascents and descents along sections, but given the average length of the walk being around 14km, this is not to be concerned with. We have given elevations on the itinerary days.

Being reasonably active and preparing a little will make the journey enjoyable. We would suggest an exercise regime that incorporates walking 10km would be useful

Although the route is well-waymarked for each of your walks, you will be provided with comprehensive walk notes, a summary of daily walks, maps (and GPX tracks if you require to use them for your own device).

LUGGAGE TRANSFERS

Each morning it will be up to you to place your luggage at the designated luggage pick-up point within the accommodation by 8.00 a.m. This generally will be at reception or where you pick up your luggage the night before. Please consult your hosts if any details.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred by our suppliers and in the office.  See the FAQ section for more information.
