Flinders Island is a 30 min flight from Launceston or 45 min flight from Melbourne. All of the walking holidays start from Flinders Island airport. This walk is Tasmania’s, possibly even Australia’s most underrated and least known walking destination. The island is drop-dead beautiful with contrasting forest, mountain range and coastal walks that traverse one of Australia’s most beautiful islands.  There is no doubt that Flinders Island is one of the most striking islands in Australia.

Walk each day with the confidence that you’re being looked after by one of Australia’s oldest walking companies.  The self-guided versions of the Flinders Island walks allow you to walk with your own friends when you want at your own pace with the support of guides that live on the island. The group-guided versions of the walks have the added bonus of 2 local experienced guides to care for you day and night.  Whatever style of walk you choose you’ll always stay in comfort, eat 2-course dinners, cooked breakfasts and enjoy lunch at some of the most epic locations Australia has to offer.

climate/weather

The climate on Flinders Island is temperate.

The Flinders Island self-guided walking holidays are available year-round. However, October through to May is a more popular time to walk.  Our local guides who live on the Island swear that June and July are also good times to walk. The weather is often clean and crisp at this time. There no one around almost all of the year as the island is still off the radar. Please see our What To Bring section in FAQ’s for more information.

For more information please see the Bureau of Meteorology’s information concerning average temperatures and rainfall levels throughout the year.
