We’ll start the day early, and make a beeline for our furthest destination, Boowinda Gorge. A stunning, dry-cobbled side-gorge, that snakes its way through the sandstone. Next up is Cathedral Cave and the Art Gallery – two of Carnarvon Gorge’s most significant rock art sites produced by the Karingbal and Bidjara people. Thousands of motifs adorn the steep, overhanging cliffs, each representing deep ceremonial, spiritual, and cultural practice. Then experience the grandeur of the Amphitheatre, where we’ll be surrounded by towering
sandstone cliffs, with millions of years of geological history laid out before us.
Finally, we’ll wander through the Gorge’s best patch of remnant rainforest en route to the Moss Garden, where a constant flow of spring water emerges from the base of the cliff and drips through carpets of moss. Stepping-stone creek crossings will be a key feature of today’s adventure, so come prepared for plenty of rock-hopping!
For those seeking a more leisurely option, our second guide will offer a shorter,
less demanding walk to the Art Gallery, Amphitheatre and Moss Garden.
