GENERAL INFO

GETTING THERE AND AWAY

Direct flights to Queenstown are available from most major Australian cities. If you are arriving from further afield Queenstown is an International airport so some International flights may fly here. Air New Zealand operates many domestic flights and you will be able to transfer to Queenstown easily from other centres. It is a short taxi ride from the airport into Queenstown.

If you are already in New Zealand you can opt to reach Queenstown either by self drive or by bus. If you choose to self-drive, the roads from Christchurch or further north are excellent and offer ample opportunities to explore on the way.

Walking

The walking is moderate and even easy on mostly even terrain between 10 and 14 km.

WEATHER

Fiordland weather is highly changeable, so when you visit prepare for all conditions. In New Zealand, January and February are the warmest months of the year (summer), and July is the coldest (winter).  Thanks to the amount of rain here the Fiordland area has amazing waterfalls and forest for you to enjoy.

The rainfall and unpredictable weather patterns are due the famous ‘Roaring Forties’ westerly air streams. These winds pick up moisture as they cross the Tasman Sea, are pushed up by the mountains then release it as heavy rain in the west and snow at higher levels.

See the New Zealand Meteorological Service for information about average temperatures and rainfall at different times of the year.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office.  See the FAQ section for more information.

INFORMATION PACK

For over 30 years we have taken pride in providing seamlessly organised walking holidays, but we know, even with that in mind, that you’ll have many more questions. You will receive a very detailed information pack and itinerary approximately 6 weeks out from departure outlining all the fine detail and much more.
