GENERAL INFO
The Gold Coast Hinterland Walk connects the Lamington and Springbrook Plateaus together via the Numinbah Valley. You’ll generally progress in a west to east direction with some circuit walks ensuring you experience the best of this ancient and spectacular landscape.
Starting and finishing on plateaus means there are some reasonably steep descents and gradual climbs. The highest point of the walk is a little under 1200m above sea level.
You can expect to walk on a variety of distinct, well-marked, well-maintained tracks. Some rough track surfaces have exposed roots, steep grades, sets of steps and creek crossings and require extra care. However, walking under the sun-dappled shade of the canopy is always delightful.
You’ll be walking an average of about 15km each day, compared to the longer 25km day along the iconic Border Track. Mostly, you’ll walk in and out from your accommodation, meaning more time to enjoy the walk’s landscapes and scenery each day. We move your luggage ahead to your next accommodation at each stage, so all you need to carry is what you need for the day.
Please Note: For larger group bookings, on your nights in the Sky Lodges at Binna Burra, not all the bedrooms will have views overlooking the Coomera & Numinbah Valleys. The Sky Lodges we allocate will have two or three bedrooms (each with their own ensuite bathroom) and large communal living areas which open up to a spacious decking area for you to enjoy the views. With this in mind, the rooms with a view will be allocated to the bookings that are received first.

We have done three supported walks with Auswalk, The Flinder’s Ranges and The Gold Cost Hinterland unguided and Larapinta Trail guided. All were well designed, well organised and most enjoyable. We’d be happy to walk with Auswalk again.

I can highly recommend this amazing holiday. The walk was breathtaking and the trip notes were easy to follow and understand , the accommodation was varied and very comfortable, not to mention unique and the food was plentiful and all tastes were catered for. Thankyou Auswalk for a wonderful holiday which was good for my body and soul.

The 7 day Gold Coast Hinterland self guided hike was awesome. I always feel some trepidation heading off alone in unknown areas but the trip notes were detailed and descriptive and with my personal beacon in my pack I felt safe. It was also reassuring to walk in areas described as suitable only for fit and experienced hikers and to discover I could complete these competently. The last few months have been extremely wet and I was faced with challenging days where I negotiated mud and slush and waded through calf deep creeks. This added to the overall enjoyment of the hike – thankfully I had poles, gaiters and plenty of newspaper to dry my boots at the end of the day. The accommodation was amazing and each one different. After hiking from O’Reillys to Binna Burra in non stop rain, the bath in the Sky Lodge was so very welcome – and what brilliant views to enjoy while luxuriating in it. My favourite hikes were those in Springbrook, probably because there were less people around and I had the tracks to myself. Thanks Auswalk for a wonderful experience. Looking forward to the next one
