OVERVIEW

The GR20 is Corsica’s iconic long-distance trail, renowned as one of Europe’s most challenging and spectacular hikes. Stretching approximately 180 km from Calenzana in the north to Conca in the south, it traverses rugged mountain landscapes, dramatic ridgelines, and remote terrain. Known for its demanding ascents, breathtaking views, and alpine scenery, the GR20 is a bucket-list trek for experienced walkers.

Beyond the famous GR20, Corsica offers a variety of walking trails catering to all levels. The Mare e Monti and Mare a Mare routes showcase the island’s diverse landscapes, linking coastal villages to lush valleys and dramatic mountain passes. Explore the Sentier des Douaniers for a scenic coastal experience or visit the Restonica Valley with its pristine glacial lakes. Corsica boasts over 1,000 km of trails, rich biodiversity, and a unique blend of French and Italian cultures. Known as the “Island of Beauty,” its history, cuisine, and rugged charm make it a walking paradise for adventure and nature enthusiasts alike.

Corsica, known as the “Island of Beauty,” boasts a fascinating history. It was Napoleon Bonaparte’s Birthplace, namely Ajaccio in 1769, Napoleon remains clearly Corsica’s most famous historical figure.

For centuries, Corsica was under Genoese control, evident in the island’s numerous watchtowers and fortifications. It became an independent Republic in 1755, albeit briefly as Corsica declared independence under Pasquale Paoli, adopting a democratic constitution, one of the first in Europe to do so.  The French annexed Corsica in 1769 becoming part of France in 1769 after the Treaty of Versailles.

Its history goes back to the time of ancient Megaliths. Prehistoric sites like Filitosa showcase mysterious stone carvings, hinting at Corsica’s early civilisations.
