DAY 1
Arrival in Paimpol & Walk to Beauport Abbey

Arrive in Paimpol, a historic fishing harbour steeped in Breton charm. As you stroll through the cobblestone streets decorated with vibrant shutters, you’ll encounter quaint cafes and the lively docks. An afternoon panoramic walk takes you along the coast to the stunning 13th-century Beauport Abbey, where the serene views across the bay await. For those with time, an optional out-and-back walk leads to a delightful oyster farm, perfect for enjoying fresh seafood tapas along with a glass of local white wine. Finish day with a return walk to Paimpol.

A Day on Beautiful Bréhat Island

Begin your adventure with a brief bus ride to Arcouest Point, followed by a scenic boat journey to Bréhat Island. Known as the ‘Island of Flowers,’ Bréhat is a paradise of exotic vegetation, including its celebrated hydrangeas. Explore the island’s winding streets on foot or by bike, encountering charming houses and colorful gardens. With vehicles restricted, you’ll find delight in the peaceful ambiance. At day’s end, return by boat to Arcouest Point and then transfer back to Paimpol.

From Arcouest Point to Loguivy & Lézardrieux

TERRAIN - FLAT TERRRAIN

Training for walking on flat, hard terrain primarily focuses on building endurance and ensuring you can maintain a comfortable pace. Start with regular walks on sidewalks, roads, or paved paths to acclimate to the surface. Maintain a proper posture and engage your core muscles to support your back and maintain a steady gait. Ensure that you have comfortable, supportive footwear with adequate cushioning. If endurance is important, consider incorporating low-impact cross-training activities like swimming or cycling into your routine.

HOW TO GET THERE AND AWAY

ARRIVAL

Paris is the closest international airport with high speed train connections available to Guingamp for approximately 3-4  hours travel time.  At Guingamp, transfer to a local TER train headed for Paimpol. This leg takes about 45 minutes. 

We can assist in arranging transfers to your hotel from Lannion, Saint Brieuc or Guingamp.

Rennes Airport is also an option with limited international flights available.

 

DEPARTURE

Your journey concludes in Lannion. After breakfast, it is a short walk to the local train station for your onward travel. 

7 Iles’ archipelago

Bird lovers may wish to take a return transfer back to Perros Guirec to take a boat excursion to the ‘7 Iles’ archipelago, France’s largest seabird reserve. Departing from the Nautical centre on Perros Guirec, embark on a 1h 45 min excursion exploring this remarkable natural site. The Sept-Îles form France’s largest seabird reserve. Over 25,000 pairs of seabirds from around 30 species find refuge here, including the northern Gannet (the only colony in France), Atlantic Puffin, Common Murres, European Shags and Razorbills. You also cruise along the pink granite coast in Ploumanac’h for another spectacular sighing of the infamous rock formations.

This can be booked in advance at https://armor-navigation.bzh/7-iles-balade-1 . We recommend the boat excursion after your walk instead of prior.

TIDE

Please check the tide schedule every day before setting off. Tides are an important factor to consider before each hike to ensure safety and avoid the risk of being trapped by rapidly rising water, especially in areas with a high tidal range (significant difference between high and low tide). Some parts of the hike may not be accessible at high tide, and you will need to take the detour route indicated in the route notes.

For your safety and well-being, we are unable to accept bookings for solo walkers on this itinerary. The remote nature of some tracks and limited mobile reception mean that walking alone presents a higher risk in case of emergencies.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

It’s well worth investing some time and effort preparing for your walking holiday. The graph shows the average daily distance, elevation and terrain difficulty for your hike. The dotted line indicates the average across all our walks, which will give you a feel for how challenging your walk is compared to all – and the recommended type, and amount, of preparation needed.  Of course, you can adapt this according to your existing fitness levels and lifestyle.

The graph and the information below can be used in conjunction with the fitness guide to help you prepare for your walking adventure. Across all walks, average daily distance is 16.8km, average daily elevation is 448m, average terrain difficulty is 5/10.

DISTANCE - BELOW AVERAGE

Distance is not a major consideration in your training program. However, you should still incorporate some long walks as it will increase your cardiovascular fitness.

ELEVATION - BELOW AVERAGE

Elevation is not a major consideration regarding how you train. However, you should still incorporate some form of resistance training as it will increase your endurance.

TERRAIN - FLAT TERRRAIN

Training for walking on flat, hard terrain primarily focuses on building endurance and ensuring you can maintain a comfortable pace. Start with regular walks on sidewalks, roads, or paved paths to acclimate to the surface. Maintain a proper posture and engage your core muscles to support your back and maintain a steady gait. Ensure that you have comfortable, supportive footwear with adequate cushioning. If endurance is important, consider incorporating low-impact cross-training activities like swimming or cycling into your routine.

HOW TO GET THERE AND AWAY

ARRIVAL

Paris is the closest international airport with high speed train connections available to Guingamp for approximately 3-4  hours travel time.  At Guingamp, transfer to a local TER train headed for Paimpol. This leg takes about 45 minutes. 

We can assist in arranging transfers to your hotel from Lannion, Saint Brieuc or Guingamp.

Rennes Airport is also an option with limited international flights available.

 

DEPARTURE

Your journey concludes in Lannion. After breakfast, it is a short walk to the local train station for your onward travel. 

7 Iles’ archipelago

Bird lovers may wish to take a return transfer back to Perros Guirec to take a boat excursion to the ‘7 Iles’ archipelago, France’s largest seabird reserve. Departing from the Nautical centre on Perros Guirec, embark on a 1h 45 min excursion exploring this remarkable natural site. The Sept-Îles form France’s largest seabird reserve. Over 25,000 pairs of seabirds from around 30 species find refuge here, including the northern Gannet (the only colony in France), Atlantic Puffin, Common Murres, European Shags and Razorbills. You also cruise along the pink granite coast in Ploumanac’h for another spectacular sighing of the infamous rock formations.

This can be booked in advance at https://armor-navigation.bzh/7-iles-balade-1 . We recommend the boat excursion after your walk instead of prior.

TIDE

Please check the tide schedule every day before setting off. Tides are an important factor to consider before each hike to ensure safety and avoid the risk of being trapped by rapidly rising water, especially in areas with a high tidal range (significant difference between high and low tide). Some parts of the hike may not be accessible at high tide, and you will need to take the detour route indicated in the route notes.

IMPORTANT - SOLO WALKERS

For your safety and well-being, we are unable to accept bookings for solo walkers on this itinerary. The remote nature of some tracks and limited mobile reception mean that walking alone presents a higher risk in case of emergencies.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office.  See the FAQ section for more information.
