KYUSHU AND THE KUNISAKI PENINSULA WITH AUSWALK

Jutting into the Seto Inland Sea from northeastern Kyushu, the Kunisaki Peninsula is one of Japan’s most rewarding and importantly one of Japans least crowded hiking destinations.

Ancient trails wind through cedar forests, past mossy stone Buddhas and cliff-face temples that have stood for over a thousand years. The Minemichi Long Trail links sacred peaks and remote valleys across roughly 140 kilometres, blending spiritual pilgrimage with rugged mountain terrain. Spring brings cherry blossoms; autumn sets the hillsides ablaze. With minimal tourist infrastructure, Kunisaki rewards the self-sufficient hiker with silence, mystery, and a profound sense of stepping into a forgotten Japan.

Auswalk is Australia’s oldest dedicated walking holiday company, delivering self-guided and guided walks worldwide.

With over 30 years of experience, 30,000+ satisfied guests, and more than 3 million kilometres walked, you’re in expert hands!

climate/weather

Kyushi is alittel warmer sooner than other parts of Japan. From late March temperatures rise, making it an ideal time for walking and if you are a flower lover the cherry blossom season is in swing. Summer in Kyushu is uncomfortable to walk, it is not unusualy to get weeks of over 36 degrees. Thus is is to warm and humid to walk any trails. More of a chance to cool off in streams. Autumn is also excellent for walking, with pleasant weather and with the change of colour of the foliage quite spectacular.

Overall, spring and autumn are the best times for walking, offering the most comfortable conditions.

Check local weather information for average conditions throughout the year.
