DAY 1
Welcome to Paimpol

Your adventure begins in the town of Paimpol, a historic fishing harbour steeped in Breton charm. As you arrive by train, take a leisurely stroll along the picturesque quays lined with colourful houses. Delight in the aroma of the sea and immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the docks, where local fishermen still thrive. Explore the cobblestone streets, visit the quaint church, and perhaps indulge in a meal at one of the lively restaurants that fill this harbour with life. The warm embrace of the town, accompanied by the calls of seagulls, invites you to relax and soak in the coastal spirit.

Walking to Beauport Abbey

Embark on a gentle walk from Paimpol to Beauport Abbey, following a scenic coastal path that offers stunning views of the rugged shoreline. Along the way, encounter friendly locals enjoying their daily stroll. The highlight of your day is exploring the serene grounds of the 13th-century abbey, where history meets breathtaking vistas of the bay. For those wishing to extend their adventure, an optional detour leads to an oyster farm where you can savour fresh seafood tapas paired with a glass of local white wine. A Day on Beautiful Bréhat Island

Today, you embark on a scenic ferry ride, at own cost, to Bréhat Island, often dubbed ‘the Island of Flowers’ for its lush gardens and exotic flora. Spend the day wandering through its charming streets. Delight in the vibrant hydrangeas, agapanthus, and the stunning coastal scenery that define this idyllic getaway. Today is a leisurely stroll along the coastline and picturesque lanes to admire the beautiful homes and gardens, before boat and bus back to Paimpol.

From Arcouest Point to Loguivy & Lézardrieux

After breakfast, take a short bus ride to Arcouest Point, where your walking adventure continues along the historic GR 34 trail. The trail, known as the customs officers’ path, was previously patrolled to catch smugglers. Marvel at the stunning coastline as you traverse the customs officers’ path towards the quaint fishing village of Loguivy de la Mer, known for its rich lobster fishing heritage. Traverse the gentle ascents and descents along the Trieux estuary to Lézardrieux, where charming half-timbered houses await. Complete your day with a transfer to the town of Tréguier, with its its medieval architecture, cozy cafés and vibrant artistic community.

This walk is available between 1st of April to 5th of November.

HOW TO GET THERE AND AWAY

ARRIVAL

Paris is the closest international airport with high speed train connections available to Guingamp for approximately 3-4  hours travel time.  At Guingamp, transfer to a local TER train headed for Paimpol. This leg takes about 45 minutes. 

We can assist in arranging transfers to your hotel from Lannion, Saint Brieuc or Guingamp.

Rennes Airport is also an option with limited international flights available.

 

DEPARTURE

Your journey concludes in the historic town of Tréguier. After breakfast on your final day, a transfer will take you back to Paimpol train station, making it easy for you to continue your travels. 

TIDE

Please check the tide schedule every day before setting off. Tides are an important factor to consider before each hike to ensure safety and avoid the risk of being trapped by rapidly rising water, especially in areas with a high tidal range (significant difference between high and low tide). Some parts of the hike may not be accessible at high tide, and you will need to take the detour route indicated in the route notes.

IMPORTANT - SOLO WALKERS

For your safety and well-being, we are unable to accept bookings for solo walkers on this itinerary. The remote nature of some tracks and limited mobile reception mean that walking alone presents a higher risk in case of emergencies.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office.  See the FAQ section for more information.

Tides are an important factor to consider before each hike to ensure safety and avoid the risk of being trapped by rapidly rising water, especially in areas with a high tidal range (significant difference between high and low tide). Some parts of the hike may not be accessible at high tide, and you will need to take the detour route indicated in the route notes.

INFORMATION PACK

For over 30 years we have taken pride in providing seamlessly organised walking holidays, but we know, even with that in mind, that you’ll have many more questions. You will receive a very detailed information pack and itinerary approximately 4 weeks out from departure outlining all the fine detail and much more.

IMPORTANT - SOLO WALKERS

For your safety and well-being, we are unable to accept bookings for solo walkers on this itinerary. The remote nature of some tracks and limited mobile reception mean that walking alone presents a higher risk in case of emergencies.

INSURANCE

We require that you have adequate travel insurance against potential losses, damage or injury, including cancellation costs and loss of luggage.

For all trips that require international travel, you must have purchased travel insurance that also includes medical evacuation coverage.

We also charge a cancellation fee if you cancel your walking holiday after we have confirmed it to cover costs incurred from our suppliers and in the office.  See the FAQ section for more information.
