inn-to-inn walking holidays
INN-to-INN walking holidays are similar to European "hotel treks" or "pub to pub" walks. You walk from place to place along a linear or circular route staying in comfortable accommodation along the way. You only need to carry a light day pack each day as the rest of your luggage will be moved for you by vehicle whilst you are out walking.

INN-to-INN walking holidays allow you to walk from one place to the next each day through superb National Parks, staying in comfortable accommodation along the way. You only need to carry a light day pack as the rest of your luggage will be moved ahead of you while you are out walking.
We have joined together the most scenic and interesting walking tracks in each area, occasionally incorporating short sections of local transport. Accommodations have been carefully chosen for their accessibility to the walking route, the quality of the property and the special care that the hosts take of our clients.
Auswalk’s INN-to-INN walking holidays are the culmination of many special arrangements made just for you (eg. luggage transfers, picnic lunches, meals in remote locations, local transport etc.)
All Auswalk INN-to-INN walking holidays can be done Self-Guided. This means you form your own group of two or more people and walk without a guide using the easy-to-follow Walk Notes we provide for you. We make all the accommodation and meals arrangements and move your luggage for you while you walk.

What size beds are provided?
If you book a DOUBLE room, you will receive a queen size bed about 95% of the time (occasionally a double). If you book a TWIN room there will be two beds, either two singles or a double/queen and single. If you book a SINGLE room you will mostly receive a double or queen bed, and occasionally a single bed. Single rooms at most of our accommodations are the same rooms as those used for couples.
What about bathrooms?
Ensuite or private bathrooms are used on all INN-to-INN trips.
Can I have my own bedroom?
Prices are based on two people sharing a room. Single rooms are available upon payment of an extra single supplement fee. Triple rooms are not available, If your group has an odd number of people, one will need to pay the supplement.
What happens if I am travelling alone?
INN-to-INN walks require a minimum of two people to book together. Single travellers are welcome on our group guided walking holidays. Note that the Blue Mountains Traverse, Great Ocean Walk - Surf Coast Section and Lamington Traverse guided walks operate on demand for a minimum of 2 people booking together.
What about meals?
Good food is also an important aspect of all Auswalk walking holidays. Meals are always plentiful, nutritious and wholesome, often with local flavours or specialities. They range from gourmet a la carte dining through to come cooked country food shared with your hosts. A typical day starts with a hearty breakfast. Picnic lunches are provided and are packed in an insulated carrier bag, ensuring they remain fresh and cool. In the evening you will sit down to a delicious dinner. The meals included are listed on the page for each walking holiday. When a meal is not included, there are always restaurants nearby for you to dine at.
Can you cater for special diets?
Yes, as long as you let us know when you book. Please be specific - for example, instead of telling us you're vegetarian, tell us what you do eat.

Relax at the end of the day's walk
Auswalk walking holidays are suitable for healthy people of all ages who enjoy walking. Walking times average 4-6 hours each day, plus time for meals, rests or sightseeing. Distances average 8-20km per day. On Self-Guided trips, the daily Walk Notes allow you some discretion to increase or decrease the day's walking as you go.
How do I know which trip is easy or hard?
Each INN-to-INN walking holiday has been graded to help you choose the most suitable one. We offer everything from easy to quite hard. If you look at our Roof of Australia trip for example, you will see that about 25% of the walking is easy, 55% moderate and 20% harder. In this way you can compare the relative difficulty of the trips offered.
Easy: Flat terrain or very gentle gradients, with well formed tracks
Moderate: Some ups and downs, including short sections of steps, usually well formed tracks with occasional rough surfaces
Harder: Might be steep, could include longer sections of steps, some soft sand or rough and uneven track surfaces.
Do you have to walk all the way?
Most people do, but if you feel like an easy day it is usually possible to travel with your luggage. On some days we stay at the same place for two nights and include a circuit walk, giving you chance to have a rest day if you like. On other days you can do just part of the scheduled walk.
When is the best time of year to go?
You will find our recommendations on the page for each different walking holiday.
How many people will there be on the walk?
On a Self-Guided INN-to-INN walk, your group of two or more people will walk independently. There is a chance that other people may have booked to start on the same date - if this happens you can choose to walk with them or with your own group. If you book a guided INN-to-INN walk, your group of two or more are likely to be the only participants - however, it is also possible that there will be others who have booked on the same date in which case you will walk with them as a small group.
What if I am travelling alone?
You can’t book onto an INN-to-INN walking holiday. Auswalk also offers a range of group guided trips that are ideal for meeting new people and enjoying the camaraderie of a group. Click here for more information.
Why is there no walking on the first day?
INN-to-INN walking holidays start after 2pm (check-in time) at your first accommodation. This is necessary so that we can move your luggage ahead the following morning, provide you with a picnic lunch and look after your car during your holiday. You can use this day to travel to the start of the trip and, if you arrive early enough, you can explore the local area during the afternoon. Your trip finishes after breakfast on the last day.
How far ahead do I need to book?
You may choose your own starting date. As there are many components for us to arrange, it is best to book well in advance to ensure your choice of dates is available. This applies in particular to school and public holidays. It will also be best if you can provide a 2nd and 3rd choice of starting dates.
How do we get to the start/finish of trips?
All Auswalk holidays can be reached by daily public transport. Brief details appear in on each trip page - ask us if you require further details. If you drive to the start, your car can be left at the first accommodation. At the end of your holiday we will either transport you back to the start point or there will be convenient public transport.
Should I choose a guided or Self-Guided holiday?
Self-Guided trips are great for independent people who prefer to choose their own walking companions and set their own pace. Guided INN-to-INN walks are exactly the same as Self-Guided ones, with the addition of a knowledgeable guide. In both cases you need a minimum of two people booking together. Click here for more information.
Do you offer tailor-made trips & private guiding?
We customise holidays for many of our customers - all you need to do is choose a destination then ask for further information. We also offer private guiding on many of our itineraries, for groups of one person upwards.
