Where You'll Stay

Your first night is spent in a centrally located hotel in Launceston, offering easy access to local parks, shops, and dining. The hotel features an on-site restaurant, bar, room service, beauty salon, and gift shop. You'll then spend three nights at Corinna, deep in Tasmania's wilderness, staying in two-bedroom cabins with private bedrooms and shared bathroom facilities. Single rooms are available at Corinna, although the room type provided may vary, as rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Your final two nights are spent at a 4-star hotel on the edge of Cradle Mountain National Park, in rooms with private ensuites. Each property is ideally located for exploring on foot and provides a comfortable place to unwind after a day on the trails.

What You'll Eat

Two-course dinners are prepared by professional chefs at each property, showcasing the best of Tasmanian produce. Each day starts with a substantial cooked breakfast to set you up for the walk ahead. Packed lunches vary daily but typically include a high-protein salad, a roll or wrap, a muesli bar, a slice of cake or a muffin, a piece of fruit and trail mix. You'll enjoy these lunches at some of the most scenic remote spots in Tasmania. Tea, coffee and juice are included at breakfast; alcohol and other drinks with meals are not included.

More About This Trip

Tasmania is best walked between November and April, during the warmer months. Availability at Corinna is limited by cabin numbers, so earlier booking secures a private or single room rather than a first-come, first-served allocation.

See the Bureau of Meteorology’s information about average temperatures and rainfall at different times of the year.

The tour starts and ends in Launceston, with pickup and drop-off at the Hotel Grand Chancellor. The most direct way to reach Launceston is by air, with regular flights from major Australian cities.

Tracks range from well-maintained to less kempt, but are all easily passable, and are mostly dry and firm during the walking season, with the odd wet section possible. Two of the days offer a real challenge for fit walkers, including some steep ascents and descents. Walks do contain some rugged sections around Cradle Mountain. A shorter, less strenuous option is available each day.

You must hold adequate travel insurance for your trip, including cover for personal liability and accidental injury and illness. For all trips involving international travel, your policy must also include emergency medical treatment, evacuation and repatriation cover. We strongly recommend your policy also covers trip cancellation and curtailment, and loss of or damage to luggage.

A cancellation fee usually applies if you cancel after your booking is confirmed. Travel insurance with cancellation cover will generally cover this fee, so it's worth arranging your policy at the time of booking.

Full insurance requirements are set out in our booking terms and conditions.

For over 30 years, we have taken pride in providing seamlessly organised walking holidays, but we know, even with that in mind, that you'll have many more questions. You will receive a very detailed information pack and itinerary approximately 6 weeks out from departure, outlining all the fine details and much more.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask our sales team. You can get in touch with us via our contact form, email us at info@auswalk.com.au, or call us on +61 3 9597 9767.

Due to limitations of catering at certain accommodations we are unable to cater for vegans on this tour unfortunately.

The Tarkine Experience

Wonder
Walk beneath Myrtle and Sassafras trees over 500 years old on the way to Philosopher Falls, in a forest that has stood for 65 million years.
Cruise the wild Pieman River aboard the historic Huon Pine launch Arcadia II, past middens and mining history, out to the river mouth on Tasmania's untouched west coast.
Stand at the summit of Mt Donaldson, looking out over a stretch of wilderness few walkers ever reach.
Wellness
Four days with nothing to carry but a light day pack, your luggage and every logistical detail taken care of by experienced guides.
Evenings unwind at Corinna's self-sufficient wilderness lodge or lakeside at Tullah, with a chef-prepared two-course dinner waiting after each day's walk.
Days move at the pace of the track, from a gentle 4km introduction to Philosopher Falls through to the longer coastal and river walks, with an easier option always on offer.
Nature
The Tarkine is the largest unbroken tract of cool-temperate rainforest left in the Southern Hemisphere, home to tree species found nowhere else.
Watch the Whyte and Pieman Rivers for platypus, and keep half an eye out after dark for a Tasmanian devil near camp.
Air here is reputed to be some of the cleanest in the world, drawn across thousands of kilometres of open ocean before it reaches this coast.
