The Camino Primitivo has or ‘Primitive Way’ or ‘Original Way’ spans 320km and is starting to enjoy a resurgence of popularity. This first stage starts in Oviedo and ends in Lugo and makes its way via stunning Galician and Asturian Spanish villages. Enjoy hiking off the beaten tourist path, soak up the stunning mountains and picturesque Spanish countryside and walk long sections of off-pavement walking.

Walking on the Camino Primitivo

The first stage of this walk culminates at the incredible, walled city of Lugo, with its vibrant, authentic Spanish dining and spectacular cathedral.  The second stage, or the final stage of the Primitivo from Lugo to Santiago, eventually converges with the French Camino and the enjoyment of what we like to call the festival of walking which is indicative of the last 100km of the French Camino.

For those who prefer flexibility or have a shorter time period to work with, customising the Camino Finisterre allows you to have your own bespoke itinerary. This way, you can stay longer in towns and walk at your own pace.  By the way, we offer a discount if you pair two of the Camino walks together.

Climate/Weather and best time to go

There are better times than others to walk the Camino. On almost all of the Caminos spring and autumn is the best time. Mid-summer can be a little warmer. Early winter is possible but the accommodations along the route are less likely to be open.

You will have to check the weather for each destination, especially through the Pyranees. We have provided more detailed information on the specific walk’s website page for each destination.
